Medical Secretary

Job Description

We are working with an NHS organisation in the Manchester area who are seeking to appoint an experienced and credible Medical Secretary who can start quickly.

The Medical Secretary will provide administrative support to the Consultants and team members.

The post holder will fulfil all tasks and work as part of a team. The role will be remunerated at Band 5 and depending upon experience could go up to Band 7 under NHS bandings.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Administrative support for the group of consultants responsible for;

  • Manage the flow of patients ensuring tests and/or appointments are booked within the necessary timescales;

  • Where relevant, undertake investigation for informal PALS complaints;

  • Audio typing and issuing of medical documents within the trusts 5-day target;

  • Transcribe documentation for patient records and responses as directed;

  • Support for Team Medical Secretaries to ensure that service provision meets relevant quality standards;

  • Ensuring all phone calls are answered within the department during core office hours;

  • Opening and dealing with departmental post and allocating resulting work to appropriate staff;

  • Deal directly with patient enquiries on behalf of consultant/clinical team.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous Medical Secretary experience;

  • Medical terminology, digital dictation typing;

  • Experience working in a busy department/team;

  • Experience working in a hospital setting is essential.
