Risk Manager

Job Description

We are working with an NHS organisation in the East of the UK who are looking to appoint a Risk Manager.

The role will be on an interim period of 3 months, with an hourly rate of £29.53 inside IR35 through an Umbrella Solution.

The main purpose of this role is to provide centralised corporate support to the operational/corporate sectors and the executive team in the specialist area of risk management. The post holder is responsible for ensuring the management, implementation and compliance with the Risk Management Framework and provide an organisational view of risk management to senior management.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide expert advice on risk across the organisation to ensure the effective implementation of the risk strategy to support embedding effective risk management across the organisation;

  • Ensure that all risk registers are maintained, discussed, managed, and actioned regularly at relevant groups and any organisation level risks are escalated to the appropriate Committees;

  • Expertly interrogate the risk register to ascertain any patterns of concern and escalate to risk owners where actions described fall short of effective mitigation;

  • Work with senior managers to improve the quality of risk registers, ensuring that services are formulating effective risk treatment plans to address risks successfully and to advise on the establishment of risk scores;

  • Develop relationships and communicate with staff at all levels in the organisation regarding risk management, employing all appropriate communication formats;

  • Act as a point of contact across the organisation for general queries relating to risks; and to ensure resolution;

  • Expert decision making to ensure that the organisation is advised appropriately and adopts the correct approach to risk management and corporate governance;

  • Work with a high level of autonomy, prioritising own workload, deciding when necessary to refer to the Head of Corporate Governance;

  • Keep up to date with developments relevant to the post by attending relevant meetings, in agreement with the Head of Corporate Governance.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of NHS risk management;

  • Understanding and alignment with the core values of the NHS and Trust;

  • Significant experience working at Board/Executive level;

  • Expert knowledge of Risk Management and corporate governance legislation and best practice;

  • Excellent communication skills and able to write detailed reports.
