Professional Head of Nursing

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen, supporting a large healthcare organisation as a Professional Head of Nursing.

The post will be based in Wales, on an interim basis for 3 months, at a competitive rate.

The post holder will be responsible for leading & managing the Community Services Management team, unscheduled team and the Complex Care team in the development and delivery of modern, effective nursing services across community services.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Establish highly effective nursing leadership and management arrangements within community services that will ensure the delivery of the highly effective patient care and positive patient/service user experience;

  • Lead the development of local implementation of the Corporate Plan and Nursing Work Programme, ensuring that all nursing leaders and managers have clear roles, responsibilities, and lines of accountability;

  • Support the Nurse Director in developing Plans and Strategies for Nursing and Patient Care based on national direction and clinical need;

  • Lead the nursing service, ensuring the highest possible standards of clinical safety, outcomes and patient experience are delivered within budgetary allocation;

  • Support and develop partnership working in the context of the Powys Health, Social care and Wellbeing Plan leading where appropriate the implementation of aspects of that plan within community services;

  • With the Nurse Director, provide professional leadership, establish, and drive programmes of support and development across the organisation;

  • Take a lead role, in support of the Nurse Director, in linking into All Wales (and beyond) fora that focus on the key specialities;

  • Ensure that all nursing staff receive regular Individual Performance Review and have Personal Development Plans in place centred on delivering services focused on patient/service need;

  • Engage with staff and Trade Unions/Professional Bodies in service issues and changes at an early stage to ensure a high level of cooperation and agreement is achieved wherever possible.

A successful candidate will have:

  • Live registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council;

  • Degree in Nursing/equivalent Health related subject;

  • Significant experience at a senior nurse level, demonstrating ability to deliver improvements to patient care;

  • Ability to use computer systems to a well-developed level;

  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
