Director of Nursing - Mental Health and Learning Disabilities

Finegreen are currently assisting in the appointment of a Director of Nursing for Mental Health and Learning Disabilities services. The role is a senior level, candidates wishing to be considered will have worked at Director level within the specialist area. The client is willing to consider those from outside the NHS for this post.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Significant organisation wide responsibility and accountability for the delivery of high quality acute clinical services through effective day to day operational and performance management across mental health and learning disability service;

  • Provide and take responsibility for Nursing and Allied Health Professionals leadership, building, motivating and developing a team of clinicians, to drive forward service transformation across mental health and learning disability services;

  • Hold responsibility jointly with other members of the Mental Health & Learning Disability team for the strategic direction, and operational delivery of services;

  • Responsible for implementing the Quality Improvement Strategy, and promoting a culture of Prudent and Compassionate Health Care;

  • Challenge, support, manage and develop the delivery of care systems across mental health and learning disability services through ensuring high levels of clinical (including Nursing and Allied Health Professionals) and staff engagement that are outcomes focused;

  • Developing and implementing robust systems for performance and financial management with patient safety and quality governance at the heart of everything they do;

  • Management of a range of staff in mental health and learning disability division and is responsible for setting and monitoring the objectives of those staff;

  • Provides inspirational, dynamic professional, visual management, leadership, supervision and an overseeing role to the clinical professions within the portfolio to develop and facilitate the delivery of excellent practice and clinical outcomes for patients that is evidence based and measurable (metrics).

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with current NMC registration;

  • 5 years extensive and varied experience based on working in a strategic nursing role with a track record of achievement;

  • Extensive senior managerial and proven experience of budgetary and staff management across several services;

  • Considerable experience and highly developed clinical skills which are used in the day to day management of mental health/learning disability services;

  • Considerable experience of working at, or just below, Board level.
