Deputy Director of Strategy & Planning

Job Description

We are excited to partner a high profile NHS organisation on their interim appointment for a Deputy Director of Strategy. The role is fully remote working and will start ASAP for approximately 6 months.

The post holder will deputise for the Strategy & Improvement Director and will hold line management responsibility for the teams across both portfolios. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a significant and credible track record of PMO Leadership, Programme management and delivery at Programme Director level.

As a key member of the Strategy & Improvement Team, the post holder will need to be a visible, senior, authoritative leader who provides assurance to the Board that systems are in place and correct policies and procedures are adhered to across the organisation to ensure safe and effective healthcare.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership of the continued development and implementation of the organisations Improvement programme. Including delivery of Improvement projects and programmes across operations and corporate ensuring that the cultural and organisational change required to establish Improvement as business as usual is embedded;
  • Lead on highly complex change management programmes, working across service areas with clinical teams and managers to improve delivery of services and outcomes for service users;
  • Managing multiple teams across the portfolios, ensuring structured accountability, support and dedicated resources;
  • Lead on organisation-wide strategic planning and partnership working. The post holder will be responsible for coordinating the development of the strategy through highly complex analysis and understanding of local and national policy, and in ensuring alignment and overarching policy and governance;
  • Analysing and reviewing external factors and internal capabilities that may impact on the financial, operational, workforce and clinical direction is a key facet of this role. While ensuring strategic development of short/ medium/long term plans are robust, closely monitored and designed to ensure the implementation of the organisations strategic aims is a priority;
  • Leading and being accountable for coordinating the development of short, medium and long term strategic plans for the delivery of outstanding care to patients;
  • The ideal candidate will have:

  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent;
  • Proven track record of leading, managing and delivering projects and programmes to successful outcomes;
  • Significant expertise at Programme Director level;
  • Experience of managing a team and looking after staff;
  • Experience in methods of improvement and theories of change;
  • Proven track record and relentless drive for continuous improvement and overcoming barriers and resistance to change;
  • Strong analytical and judgement skills;
  • Planning and organisational skills.
