THE REQUIREMENT
The Royal Surrey County Hospital is a 520-bed District General Hospital, located on the fringe of Guildford, run by the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As part of their expansion plans the Trust had been successful in bidding for wider community services and establishing new organisational forms. As part of this growth, the Human Resource Function needed to add to its skill base by bringing in additional capability over a phased period. Commencing with the appointment of a HR Business Partner (HRBP), the HR Director worked with Finegreen to establish a team which could actively support the Trust so it could meet its strategic objectives.
THE SOLUTION
Securing the initial HRBP assignment was only the first step in developing a longer-term partnership with the Trust. Finegreen’s Interim HR Team, led the assignment. This required working closely with the HR Director to fully understand the strategic context in which the HR Function was operating and its need to transition to be fit for the future. In order to do this several site visits were arranged to allow Finegreen the opportunity to meet with members of the HR team, listen to their challenges and take stock of capability. It soon became evident that the team would need additional strategic HR capability to support the business through its expansion plans. Finegreen were able to support and advise and as a result, were tasked with delivering a wider recruitment campaign within the function. Subsequent appointments included:
Assistant HR Director
Medical HR Lead
TUPE Project Manager
Change Lead
OD Lead
THE OUTCOME
Plans are now in place to further this partnership approach by joining forces to run development events for NHS staff using the combined facilities and expertise of Royal Surrey and Finegreen. In addition to this, Finegreen are also working with members of the Trust’s senior leadership team to provide guidance and support in recruiting key posts to the Trust’s fledgling subsidiary business.
