Interim General Manager - Acute Medicine, ED & Urgent Care

We are working with an NHS Acute Provider organisation who are seeking to appoint an Interim General Manager – Acute Medicine, ED & Urgent Care.

The role will be for 12 months on a Fixed Term Contract and will be up to Band 8d depending upon experience. The Trust are looking for someone who can start ASAP.

Key responsibilities will include:

Support the Divisional Director of Operations, Service Leads and divisional managerial staff in the planning, development, provision and review of, patient focussed and cost-effective integrated pathways and services;

Professional operational leadership for the Division, where relevant managing non-medical staff and agreed service portfolios;

Ensure that the Division achieves its local and national performance targets thorough robust processes developed with the Divisional Service Managers;

Contribute to the achievement by the Trust of its corporate targets;

Responsible for ensuring that the Service Management team identify and focus on the Services most critical delivery areas;

Support & lead on the development and implementation QIPP based service improvements throughout the Divisions portfolio, which supports achievement of the Trusts Corporate Objectives;

Contribute to the development of the annual Service Business Plan in conjunction with Divisional Director of operations, Service Leads and divisional managerial staff. Lead on specific elements of the plan as defined by the Divisional Director of Operations

Support the Divisional Director of Operations with relevant information for the contract negotiation process, so that Trust income can be maximised and clear objectives can be set;

Provide assurance that the agreed financial activity and other performance targets in the annual Business Plan will be delivered. Escalate immediately any concerns pertaining to non delivery to the Divisional Director of Operations;

Work with key stakeholders and partners to maximise the QIPP agenda;

On behalf of the Divisional Director of Operations be responsible for the performance monitoring of activity on a daily basis, to support the achievement of the Trusts targets, and monitor subsequent actions required;

Lead on and develop action plans where required for the turnaround of any specific performance issues;

Ensure that standards of service set are reviewed to support the delivery of services in line with NSFs national and local guidance and benchmarks, local contractual requirements, activity and financial targets;

Set up effective arrangements for monitoring performance regularly with your Service Managers, identifying areas for improvement and action.

The ideal candidate will have:

Post graduate training in Business or NHS Management; Masters degree or equivalent ability; Formal education to first degree level or equivalent ability

Experience of Managing specialist services;

Significant operational management in an Acute NHS Trust including senior level experience;

Significant staff management, including senior level experience;

Significant budget management experience;

Management of change expertise.
