Job Description
An NHS system is seeking a highly experienced Interim Project Director to lead the delivery of a strategic programme focused on the development and implementation of shared back-office services across multiple NHS organisations. This is a high-profile role at Band 8d/9 level (in line with NHS agency cap rates), offering the opportunity to influence system-level transformation and drive long-term operational efficiency.
Key Objectives:
Lead the end-to-end planning and delivery of a shared services model across a defined NHS footprint, covering functions such as Finance, HR, Procurement, and other enabling services;
Engage and align multiple stakeholders across partner organisations to ensure shared vision, governance, and delivery accountability;
Develop the programme infrastructure, including benefits realisation plans, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and reporting frameworks;
Ensure alignment with national policy, ICS strategies, and best practice in shared services delivery.
Oversee operational readiness and implementation phases to ensure a smooth transition to the new operating model.
Essential Criteria:
Demonstrable experience of successfully establishing shared services across multiple NHS organisations or within a complex public sector environment;
Proven track record of operating at Director level or equivalent in the NHS;
Strong programme leadership skills with a focus on collaboration, transformation, and value for money;
In-depth understanding of NHS culture, governance, and stakeholder dynamics;
Available to start immediately or at short notice.
This assignment will be offered on a 6-month basis, inside IR35, with hybrid working arrangements available.
