Head of Maternity Governance

Job Description

Finegreen are working with an NHS organisation in the East of the UK who are looking to appoint a Head of Maternity Governance. This role will be for 6 months with an hourly rate of £49.54, working inside IR35 (through an umbrella solution company).

The post holder will be responsible for developing professional leadership and leading the Care

Group processes for governance including patient safety, risk management and regulatory

compliance.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead on specific projects and delegated by the Head of Midwifery/Nursing;
  • Provide professional expert midwifery knowledge and leadership to the midwifery team, demonstrating a commitment to midwifery practice;
  • Promote good communication and collaborative working relationships with the multidisciplinary team;
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate the overall strategies and approach to patient safety and incident reporting in Women’s and Children’s;
  • Attend allocated departmental and hospital meetings as required;
  • Ensure regular “horizon scanning” to identify changes to existing standards and new emerging/developmental standards are identified early and communicated effectively to the Director of Midwifery and appropriate groups;
  • Review and analyse patient survey data and clinical audits to identify trends relating to patient safety and develop strategies for the implementation of patient safety initiatives across care Group;
  • Lead on ensuring that the Care Group has a sufficient cohort of staff trained in incident investigation, Being Open/Duty of Candour, statement taking and Root Cause;
  • Analysis by delivering training as required ensuring that actions are taken, and lessons learnt are embedded into practice;
  • Be an effective change agent for members of the maternity staff.
  • The ideal candidate will have:

  • Registered Midwife;
  • Extensive experience working within the NHS/a healthcare setting within Clinical Governance;
  • Professional knowledge in patient safety, risk management and quality;
  • Educated to master’s level or equivalent senior midwifery experience;
  • Ability to maintain communication with others on complex matters, issues and ideas or in complex situations.
