Estates Manager

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within an NHS organisation in Wales who are looking to appoint an Estates Manager. This role will be for 3 months in the first instance and has a potential to be extended.

The post holder will have an hourly rate of £34.65 working Inside IR35 (Through an Umbrella Solution).

The post holder will be responsible for the overall management of the department’s building and engineering services and the management of all departmental staff.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage the Estates Departmental budget, for the department to ensure value for money and achieve all financial targets;

  • Line manage Estates staff within the department, with responsibility for recruitment, training/development, grievance and disciplinary issues, with exposure to occasional emotional/distressing circumstances;

  • Ensure that all day-to-day activities are carried out in a safe manner;

  • Reduce risks within the workplace, by assessment, risk reduction and control measures;

  • Responsible for the effective management and operation of plant and equipment, services and buildings, in line with service requirements ensuring prompt remedial action takes place when required either through direct labour or through contractors, with an emphasis at all times on patient care;

  • Responsible for the implementation and constant review of planned maintenance programs;

  • Provide highly complex technical advice, where appropriate, to the Assistant Director of Strategy (Estates) and other members of the Health Board who are considering both major and minor developments, calling upon the assistance of Project Managers and Project Officers from the Capital Estates department where applicable.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • BSc in Electrical or Mechanical or Environmental Technology;

  • MSc in a building or engineering discipline or equivalent specialist knowledge gained through at least three years’ experience at a senior level within Estates or a post graduate qualification;

  • Minimum of 5 years recent experience in Hospital Operational Engineering or Building service;

  • Full Range IT Skills, i.e. Microsoft Office, Excel etc;

  • Full UK Driving License and use of own Vehicle to travel between sites if necessary.
