Director of Care

Job Description

We are working with a specialist healthcare organisation to appoint a Director of Care, ideally this person will also have registered manager status currently.

The post is based in Wales, on an interim period for 6 months with a competitive salary based on experience.

The post holder will work effectively and proactively, to ensure the delivery of safe, well-led, effective, and compassionate care services.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Demonstrate and disseminate clinical expertise to the Nursing and Clinical Teams and have a “walk the floor” presence across service delivery, conducting regular clinical rounds;

  • Through effective multi-disciplinary team working, ensure that clinical practice is evidence based, embedding a dynamic culture of learning which ensures enquiry, responsibility, and professional accountability;

  • In collaboration with the Board, plan and develop our Care services to ensure an integrated approach, with increasing emphasis on all-Wales strategies in line with the charity’s mission and affordability considerations;

  • Drive continuous improvement to embed high standards of safe and high-quality nursing and clinical services at all times, creating a compassionate family centred environment which enhances the child and family experience;

  • Work with the Board, Chief Executive, and the Executive Team to develop the strategy, business plans, policies, and procedures to support the provision of the highest standards of care services for children and families;

  • Implement, review/update and report on the delivery of the nursing and clinical services strategy and annual operational plan, ensuring an agile response to necessary changes;

  • Advise the Chief Executive on risks, issues, concerns, complaints, and incidents in a timely manner;

  • Act as a positive role model, promoting team working, respect, innovation, and excellence across the organisation;

  • Accountable for setting and managing the directorates annual budget, ensuring cost-effective financial management relating to the provision of family and outreach services.

  • The ideal candidate will have:

  • Current professional registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC); ideally Registered Manager experience also;

  • Extensive experience of working as a senior leader palliative care, with evidence of successfully leading teams and services to deliver high quality, safe, and patient centred care;

  • Clinically credible and be able to make effective clinical decisions;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with/ influence a range of stakeholders and diverse groups of people.
