Clinical Lead Ophthalmology Services

Job Description

A large healthcare organisation is looking to appoint a Clinical Lead for their Ophthalmology Services, any suitable candidate must have experience within Ophthalmology as an RGN/ODP. The role is predominately remote working, however due to the nature of the service there will be a planned requirement to travel (expenses covered). This service operates over weekends so there will be an expectation to be present, at times which will be accommodated with time off as needed between Monday to Friday.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for the clinical staff across the Ophthalmology service, acting as a point of contact for advice and expertise on all matters relating to this specialist service in collaboration with the senior leadership team;
  • Provide visible, inclusive and approachable clinical leadership, inspire and motivate others, enabling clinical professionals to obtain and develop skills, authority and autonomy they need to continuously improve the patient safety and experience;
  • Ensure the delivery of outstanding person centred care and providing assurance of this to the Senior Management Team, supporting the delivery of organisations strategy;
  • Lead and focus on continuous quality improvement - improving person centred care, financial sustainability, preventing hospital acquired infection; improving standards of clinical care, patient experience and treating patients with dignity and respect;
  • Lead by example; ensuring that staffing levels meet patient needs; empowering clinicians to take on a wider range of clinical tasks; ensuring that patients’ needs are met; improving the environment for patients and resolving problems as/if they arise;
  • Management of the clinical services within the area of responsibility, allocating and providing sufficient resources and opportunities to deliver person-centred nursing care, involving patients and carers;
  • Manage the recruitment and deployment of nursing staff;
  • Identify learning and development needs in the workforce, plan how these will be met and evaluate the effectiveness for learners and the impact on care;
  • Recognise clinical issues/problems and take early action as appropriate;
  • Ensure the environment is conducive to excellence in clinical care and patient outcomes.
  • A successful candidate will have:

  • A current NMC or HCPC registration as a Nurse or ODP;
  • Significant experience within Ophthalmology services, either NHS or private healthcare setting;
  • Proven track record in the management and leadership of clinical teams within a healthcare setting;
  • It would be advantageous to have experience within Insourcing model of Care, but not essential.
