Clerk of Works

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within an NHS organisation in London as a Clerk of Works. The hourly rate will be £39.99 inside IR35 (through an umbrella solution).

The post holder will be responsible for inspecting construction work to ensure it meets statutory standards and health and safety requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Quality assurance monitoring, compliance with specifications set, NHS standards (Health Building Notes HBN’s & Health Technical Memoranda HTM’s) and organisation specific standards;

  • Review Health & Safety compliance to include, as necessary the wearing of PPE on site by all, site conditions, access and egress control on site and the displaying of relevant notices;

  • Production of weekly clerk of works reports using standard documentation electronically;

  • Reports to be made available for the end of each week;

  • A good sound base and understanding of the NEC3 form of contract able to operate with minor supervision/assistance;

  • Ensure that contractor’s compound site set up is fully compliant with the organisation’s standards to include any hoardings and signage;

  • Engage and assist as required with the isolations process at site level;

  • Attend design team meetings with in-house and external consulting design staff as appropriate;

  • Prepare schedules of defects and to certify rectification of items;

  • Responsible for purchasing equipment relevant to individual projects and selecting the relevant suppliers.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in a relevant discipline construction management or building surveying;

  • Professional membership of appropriate body e.g., Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI), CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building);

  • Experience as Clerk of Works within NHS organisations;

  • Specialist knowledge of statutory and mandatory requirements with regards to the construction industry;

  • Responsive to change and ideas, able to introduce and adapt to new systems.
