Chair of the Board

Job Description

Camden Health Partners

Chair of the Board

Time Commitment: 1 - 2 Days per week

Salary: GP Sessional rate

Camden Health Partners (CHP) plays a key strategic and provider delivery role in the health and care sector in Camden and wider system of North Central London. They work closely with member practices to provide high quality information to support both the planning and provision of services with a particular focus on health inequalities. CHP provide CQC registered services for patients in urgent and unplanned care and also specialist services in long term condition management. They also enable the exchange of information with all member practices and wider stakeholders through listening, sharing high quality insights and timely briefings.

The CHP Board has worked closely with the Executive Team to set a strong strategic framework to enable the company to respond to changing needs and to make the most of new opportunities. The appointment of a new Chair comes as the Board and Executive Team consider the organisation’s next three year strategy.

Camden Health Partner’s role in helping the health and care sector to ‘rebuild better’ is more crucial than ever. The Chair will play a vital role in setting the framework and harnessing the array of talents so that the next strategic plan is inspired, relevant and, ultimately, delivered. There are significant, and interesting, challenges to be considered, not least the need to fully embed future financial sustainability.

Camden Health Partners is now well placed to develop and deliver on new ambitions led by the next Chair and CEO, along with a highly engaged board and staff team. They see excellence in governance not as an end in itself but as a way of ensuring that Camden Health Partners delivers all the right things, for the right people in the right ways. The new Chair will lead Camden Health Partners in new and exciting ways, as these challenging times demand, with the benefit of a strong foundation and a committed team.

The Chairperson has a vital strategic role to play in realising the vision and purpose of the organisation. The Chairperson ensures that the organisation complies with the requirements of the law and good practice in companies house governance, including ensuring that the Board functions effectively; that there is full participation at meetings; all relevant matters are discussed; and that effective decisions are made and carried out.

Camden Health Partners is an organisation that is changing to meet the evolving needs of health and care locally. Digital, data and impact are increasingly the foundations of Camden Health Partners delivery and therefore they need a Chair that can lead the development of a strategy that builds on those foundations to ensure CHP deliver their purpose.

Within that strategy CHP need to achieve sustainability. The Chair therefore needs to be confident in using financial data to inform strategic direction and decisions. Working with the Chief Executive and Finance Director, The Chair needs to ensure that financial planning and risk management help the Board and Executive to meet the challenge of being a sustainable organisation within a financially fragile sector.

Camden Health Partners has a strong governance framework and this has been recognised externally. Maintaining this framework and assisting the CEO to develop a productive Board plan is important.

The Chair will lead the Board to make sure that it is accessible and inclusive, that diverse views are encouraged and respected and a consensus is reached through open dialogue. The Chair will also play a leading role in ensuring that the Board continues to have the right skills to perform its functions as well as spotting and addressing any skill gaps which may arise in the Board. Enabling each Board director to make their full contribution and supporting the development of individual skills, as well as creating a strong team, will require strong leadership skills and experience.

Giving support to Camden Health Partners incoming CEO is also a key function, The Chair will act as both a sounding board and a challenge to enable the CEO to carry out their role effectively in an increasingly changeable and challenging external environment.

If you share CHP’s vision, and values, then we look forward to receiving your application and meeting with you in due course.
